latest rebuild finally finished ... recent early 2009 announcement pic was taken before string ferrules were installed and so now it has strings and qualifies as a musical instrument... lindy fralin blues special in bridge, duncan antiquity in neck position...all reshot with leftover reranch aerosol nitro lacquer--butterscotch blonde, fender blonde, lake placid blue, tinted clear, burgundy mist, trans "gretsch" orange and as many coats of clear as I had left...
I also shot the pickguard obviously....eventually I expect the dora & boots stickers to fall off and leave random spots on there where the lacquer will begin to chip away...neck is a warmoth standard contour 1 11/16 with bone nut.
tone is very reminiscent of keef--bright snarly and crisp. with slide it can also get into muddy water territory. I was playing "can't be satisfied" on it last night and it sounded very blues-approved, very reminiscent of some live muddy recordings I've heard. I'm going to keep it in open A (I like A better than G on electric guitar for string tension purposes)...this tuning sounds great on tele and allows one to explore the catalog of the rolling stones and the replacements/paul westerberg, amongst others. I also expect that before long I'll bring it down to the blues dive to play some bottleneck slide, which I enjoy but very seldom have a chance to play with others...
it's a subtle finish, dontcha think?

a lovely video homage to the art of luthiery from the drive-by truckers...
and no I do not believe that it is possible to build an acoustic guitar in one day...not with all that inlay work...glue takes time to dry...but hey it's a video...

the revamped red tele sounded great at a recent session...I've also been using it intermittently on recent jazz recordings. not quite as deep a low end as the archtop but very clear and very quiet...a great recording axe...
